Chris Minard scored the overtime winner to give the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 5-4 come-from-behind victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday night.
The Penguins lead the best-of-seven series two games to none. Game three of the East Division Semifinals is scheduled for 5:05 PM on Sunday at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.
With their team trailing 4-2 after the second period, Penguins' defensemen Andy Wozniewski and Ben Lovejoy scored to force overtime. The pair of goals set up Minard's decisive tally, which eluded Bridgeport goaltender Nathan Lawson at the 4:54 mark of the extra session.
The Penguins received two goals from Dustin Jeffrey in the first period – including one just 30 seconds into the game – but entered the first intermission facing a 3-2 deficit. Michael Haley, Kyle Okposo, and Mike Iggulden scored for Bridgeport, with Iggulden's power play tally giving the Sound Tigers their first lead of the series.
Rookie forward Jesse Joensuu stretched Bridgeport's lead to 4-2 midway through the second period, but that was the last goal that Penguins' goaltender John Curry would concede. Curry stopped 27 of the 28 final shots he faced through regulation and overtime, finishing with 33 saves on the evening.
