The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-2 on Friday night, taking a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-seven playoff series.
Chris Minard and Dustin Jeffrey scored first period power play goals for the Penguins to give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Midway through the second period, Luca Caputi scored to extend Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's lead to three, but Trevor Smith and Rob Hennigar scored to pull the Sound Tigers to within a goal before the intermission.
Bridgeport was unable to net the equalizer, as Penguins' goaltender John Curry turned aside 30 of the 32 shots that he faced, including all 15 fired at him during the third period. Curry earned his 15th career playoff victory for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, establishing a new franchise record.
The game was played at the Nassau Veterans' Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Game two is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at 7:00 PM.
